Can you believe it! I have already been here in Honduras for more than 2 months! Since my language study in Copan Ruinas, there have been a lot of changes. The first significant change is that I moved into my year-long host family house in Tegucigalpa. I live with a Honduran mother and her two adult children. Our house is a cute little mint green house at the corner of the street; the front of the house is decorated with rose bushes and on the side, there is a collection of fruit trees. We live in a closely connected community, where everyone knows everyone, which is great for safety purposes. We even go to church in the neighborhood and I have gotten to meet more members of the community at Sunday services.

The next big change happened at the end of September; I started working at the AFE school. The name of the school is Amor, Fe, y Esperanza or AFE for short. In English the name of the school is Love, Faith, and Hope. So far, I have done some translations of letters that are sent between the students and their sponsors in addition to assisting other teachers with classroom activities. For the month of October, I had the opportunity to serve in the nursery every day. The AFE nursery has children from 1 years old to 4 years old participating in daily educational activities. Working with this age group was something relatively new for me because I do not have as much experience with kids this young. However, I was still able to jump in and start changing diapers, feeding breakfast and lunch, and playing with the kids during classroom activities. Honestly, all of the children in the nursey are extremely cute and very active; they definitely gave me a run for my money by the end of every day.

Now that we have entered the month of November, the Honduran school year has come to a close. In contrast with the US, most schools in Honduras start in February and end in November, which means that I arrived at the end of the school year. For this reason, I have not started teaching English classes yet. Currently, we are in the part of the year where students have vacation activities for half-days every week until Christmas break. Right now, we are doing Christmas themed arts and crafts for students to bring home. We are also decorating the school in Christmas decorations made by the teachers and students. In the weeks to follow students will be completing some service projects, participating in school-wide games, practicing performances for the annual Christmas party, and preparing for graduation ceremonies.

For now, I am looking forward to seeing the Christmas transformation of the school and the community in which I am living. Keep checking my blog to find out more about what I am doing here in Honduras! Until next time, I leave you with this picture of me with an adorable puppy I met on Saturday!
