Mexico!
During the last week of July in 2013, I and a group of 15 members of my home church traveled down to Nogales, Mexico. Under the guidance of the local church and non-profit, we completed a series of service projects in a mountainside neighborhood.
The community of Nogales, Mexico is an impoverished population of immigrants displaced by deportations from the U.S. and failed attempts to cross the Mexican and U.S. border. Unfortunately, these families do not have the financial capacity to travel beyond this region. Therefore, thousands families stay and live in the Sonora desert. With houses made from miscellaneous wooden pallets, metal scraps and recycled pieces of furniture, these families are just able to survive.
I had the wonderful opportunity to visit a non-profit by the name of Curium Outreach. Through their connections to the community I was able to volunteer my time and efforts to better the living conditions of some of these families.
